A CLASSIC, REIMAGINED

We invented the Negotiator 4 years ago, initially as a silicone mould of the internal shape of the OREA V2 and then transitioned into a 3D printable, sharable design that has truly changed the brewing world. The NEO NEGOTIATOR is our evolution of this original and simple tool. Injection-moulded from a BPA-free polymer, food safe and heat resistant. Designed to allow water to flow through and with a shape that fits the paper better to the brewer's walls.

EVOLVED

We think a lot about the tools we create and do our best to improve them when we have good ideas and the budget for it. The Negotiator had been quite niche, growing in popularity over time. It felt like the right moment to commit to a design and manufacture it properly, to act on a lot of the feedback people have sent us over time. We hope you will love it as much as we do!

COMPATIBLE

The NEO NEGOTIATOR is compatible with all of our narrow-shaped flat bottom brewers. Use it with the V2, V3, V3 MK2, V4 Narrow, O1, Glass Brewer, and Porcelain Brewer.  Please note that some of our devices are hand-made and some of our bottoms are different internally - which can cause some minimal space around the Negotiator. This is okay! You can sit the filter perfectly with some water after the initial fold.

HEAT SAFE

Perfectly safe to use with boiling water - a much requested feature. We were uncomfortable to solve this in 3D printing, because we do not trust 3D printing and food safety at high temperatures (the materials are simply not rated or tested for this in real world use). This is partly why we have never released a heat-use 3D printed product. With injection-moulding we can guarantee heat-safe food safety over time and it gives us the freedom to use premium materials with a perfectly injected finish.

FAST FLOW

The NEO NEGOTIATOR is designed like our famous brewers - to be fast-flowing and allow a super quick saturation of the filter paper with water.  Simply wet the paper in place, rotate, and voila - the perfect fit every time.

NEGOTI-WHAT?

If you're new to OREA and to the concept of a Negotiator - we'll explain it simply. It is a simple tool that helps you shape almost any kind of filter (flat paper filter preferred) to the inside of our brewers. It helps you negotiate the paper into shape, to form a low-bypass brewing environment where the paper hugs the walls perfectly, forcing water through coffee rather than encouraging it to go around it. 

HIGHER EXTRACTION

By minimising bypass, you will invariably reach higher extractions in similar brewing times. Bypass can cause blockages, slowing down brews. Minimising this bypass can ensure similar brew times but with a much richer, brighter extraction. 

MORE CONSISTENT 

Bypass is inconsistent. It never happens the same way. By using the Negotiator and a flat paper filter in our flat bottom brewers, you can minimise bypass and ensure more consistency brew-to-brew. 

MORE FUN

You can experiment with more paper types and brewing styles - it's overall a bit of a geeky tool, but super fun nonetheless.

THE TULIP 🌷 - A FOLDING TOOL

When we first opened up the files of the Negotiator with the wider world, we imagined that other product people would contribute to the project and build awesome tools around it. Unfortunately, it just resulted in others making their own clone of the tool itself, rather than adding to the ecosystem, but we did not stop opening our files as we made new versions regardless. Four years on, we have a first contribution that inspired the Tulip - as a paper folding guide that was first created by Lin from GX in Taiwan. We have adapted those ideas to make the Tulip - which is shared as a printable on our website's Printables section. Feel free to download and print this for home use or for friends. 

HOW IT WORKS

The experience is a little magical, as you would not expect this to work so well. But it does - every single time. 

1. Place the flat paper filter on top of the tulip and make sure it's centred 

2 Simply press down with the negotiator into the tulip

At this stage, you will see that the perfect 4 sided shape is formed, which serves as a perfect guide to fold your paper. 

3. Fold the protruding sides over onto the wall of the tulip

4. Once folded flat, pull the paper and negotiator out, together 

5. Transfer the paper into the brewer and press down with the Negotiator 

6. Pour some water into the Negotiator to wet and sit the paper 

7. Gently rotate the Negotiator and remove it from the brewer - you will be left with a perfectly folded and moulded filter inside your brewer

And now it's time to brew! What is even cooler is that the Tulip is also a really nice stand for the Negotiator, and a pretty fun fidget tool as you can spin the Negotiator inside. We think it's an awesome extension to have if you ever struggled to fold the flat papers, as while we listed 7 steps to how it works, it really takes just 5-10 seconds in total to get set up. COMPATIBILITY

The tulip is compatible with all of our NARROW shaped Negotiators (like the old V3 Negotiator, or the 3D printed V4 Negotiator, and the new NEO Negotiator).
